MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM scene 1

Set in the year 0079 of the cosmic century, this robot animation depicts the conflict between the Earth Federation Forces and the Principality of Zeon. It has already been half a century since the human race began to emigrate its overgrown population into space amid space exploration. Side 3, the space city farthest from Earth, has challenged the Earth Federation Government to a war of independence under the name of the Principality of Zeon. The struggle for power over Earth and space intensifies, and in the course of a month-long battle, the Principality of Zeon and the Federation Forces lose half of their total population, leaving the Federation Forces outnumbered and the war at a stalemate. The protagonist, a young boy named Amuro Rei, accidentally boards and pilots the Federation’s new mobile suit Gundam after a surprise attack by the Zeon forces. In order to survive the war, he is forced to fight as a soldier alongside boys and girls on the battleship White Base, and eventually awakens as a “Newtype”.

MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM scene 2

The appeal of Mobile Suit Gundam is, of course, the superb mobile suits and battle scenes, but in contrast to the heroes of Japanese robot anime, who are generally “kind, brave and hot-blooded with a strong sense of justice”, the character of Amuro Ray is “a heroic figure, but a sensitive and introverted character who is troubled by the reasons for fighting”. This is the setting. The greatest appeal of Mobile Suit Gundam is the profound psychological portrayal of the character’s growth as a person and a member of society through encounters with various people and battles, despite being mentally trapped and exhausted in the extreme conditions of war that he is suddenly caught up in.
It can be enjoyed without prior knowledge! We hope you enjoy Mobile Suit Gundam, the starting point of Japanese robot animation!
