Captain Tsubasa is the story of Tsubasa Ozora, a young boy with a passion for soccer. The story begins when Tsubasa is in elementary school, and depicts how he faces many challenges together with his friends through soccer. He plays against various rivals aiming to win the national championship and grows as a player. From episode 57, Tsubasa and his teammates, now in their third year of junior high school, are depicted, but the work ends with the final of the junior high school tournament between Nankatsu and Toho, and the story does not depict the junior youth national team, formed mainly from the best players of this tournament, participating in an international tournament in France. On the other hand, in episodes 98 through 104 during the middle school version, the time is turned back to three years before the characters, and an original story is depicted in which Tsubasa and his friends in the 6th grade of elementary school travel to Europe.

As Tsubasa grows up, his talents blossom and he becomes active on the world stage. The friends he meets along the way are also full of character, and his friendships and bonds with them add depth to the story. The film depicts not only his soccer skills, but also his spiritual growth as a winner, which is inspiring to the viewer.
