“OVERLORD” is an anime based on the light novel of the same name by Kugane Maruyama.The first season aired in 2015, and the first part, “King of the Immortals,” and the second part, “Jet-Black Hero,” were released in 2017 and 2017, respectively.Production of the second season, “OVERLORD 2,” was announced after the ending of “The Movie Compilation: Overlord: The Jet-Black Hero.”Production continued to be handled by Madhouse and was broadcast in 2018.After the second season ended, production of the third season “OVERLORD 3” was announced and aired from July to October of the same year.
In 2021, the first PV for the fourth season “OVERLORD 4” was released, followed by the second and third PVs at a later date, and the series aired in 2022. A completely new theatrical anime depicting the “Holy Kingdom Arc” was also announced and is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2024.

Synopsis

“OVERLORD” shows the protagonist playing a game called “Yggdrasil,” a once thriving VRMMO-RPG, whose services are being terminated due to a decrease in the number of players.

The protagonist is logged into the game until the moment the service ends, and is not logged out even after the service end time has passed. He tries to force logout but is unable to do so and is left behind in the game world.

This is where the protagonist’s second life begins.

His name in the game is Momonga, the last member of the guild [Ain’t Wool Gown]. It was based in Nazarick.
There are NPCs in the game itself, and essentially you can only have a brief conversation with them. However, the NPCs in front of you have an ego and start talking like real creatures.
We let the NPCs search the surrounding area, but this world was completely unfamiliar to us. And Momonga was not a human, but an undead body.
The main character, Momonga, changed his name to “Ainz,” and thinking that there might be other players in this world besides him, he decided on one policy, which he half-jokingly said “world domination,” in order to spread his name to the world.

It is an epic story of a lonely and dull young man who loves to play games in the real world and goes on to explore various places in the other world with his NPC friends.

OVERLORD | Recommendations

“OVERLORD” has a lot to offer. The setting is well done, and the characters are much more emotionally involved than in other reincarnation works, allowing the player to become immersed in the story.
For example, the main character is an absolute ruler on the outside and a gentle businessman who used to be a gamer on the inside, and the way he tries his best to play the role of a ruler, and the way he says “I’m tired” when he is alone is very human and highly sympathetic.
The characters are also endearing in the way that they take it upon themselves to maintain the respect and trust of their subordinates because they are so competent, and in the way that they play coy and knowing. With such human qualities, this anime work is the strongest protagonist in the story of the in-game world.
