Serialised in “Weekly Shōnen Sunday” from 1978 to 1987, it was made into a TV animation and a film, and was not only a huge boom at the time, but is an enduring classic that has influenced the current manga and anime world. The author is Rumiko Takahashi, whose works include Mezon Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha.” Urusei Yatsura” is her debut serialisation and her best-known work. The young and talented staff, including Mamoru Oshii, have freely and energetically adapted Rumiko Takahashi’s masterpiece, which caused a boom in the world, into the film “Urusei Yatsura”.

The main character ‘Ataru Moroboshi’ is a womanising, soft-hearted high school student born under a star of misfortune. One day, a girl called ‘Ram’ from the Oni race invades the earth. The Earthmen’s representative ‘Ataru’ and the demon tribe representative ‘Ram’ decide to play a game for the future of the Earth, and if the demon tribe wins, they will conquer the Earth immediately, but if the Earthmen win, they will give up and go home.
Ataru proposed to Ram by chance (or so it seemed to Ram!). Ram accepted Ataru’s proposal, and the Earth won the game of tag. But this time, he calls the unfaithful Ataru “Darling! and chasing after him, Ram’s endless game of tag begins. This is an outlandish love comedy with a duo of misfits.

Urusei Yatsura is a work that created a culture in the Japanese manga and anime world where viewers became absorbed in cute girl characters, and was the birthplace of ANIOTA culture.
At the time of broadcast, there were pros and cons about the drawings and other aspects, but it is an interesting work that transcends all that. The attractive characters are fun to watch, and the voice acting is superb. At the time, I remember that it was rare to see an anime with such different opening and ending songs. Naturally, each song is good, so I urge you to listen to them.
