Demon Slayer is a Japanese manga series by Koyoharu Gotouge, whose manga was serialized in a weekly magazine from 2016 to 2020. An anime was televised from 2019. In 2020, the theatrical anime “Endless Train” which depicts the middle part of the story, was released. The film’s box-office revenue in Japan reached over 40 billion yen, making it the number one box-office hit of all time in Japan.

Synopsis

The time is the Taisho era. The main character, “Tanjirou Kamado,” lived a humble but happy life in the mountains with his family.
One day, Tanjiro goes out to sell charcoal in town, but when he returns to the mountain, his family is attacked by a demon and dies in a pool of blood.
He desperately descends the snowy mountain, carrying his sister Nezuko on his back in the pouring snow, in order to save her, the only survivor.
On the way down, Nezuko suddenly roars and attacks Tanjirou.
His sister, Nezuko, who is his only remaining relative, is attacked by a demon and survives, but has turned into a demon.
Through various encounters, Tanjirou vows to turn her back into a human.
To achieve this, he joins an organization that defeats demons, and sets out on a journey with the goal of defeating the leader of the demons, “Kibutsuji Muzan”.

One of the highlights of “Demon Slayer” is the bond between the main character, Tanjirou Kamado, and his younger sister, Nezuko. The deep bond between the brother and sister, who are caught up in a harsh fate but face it together, is a moving sight.
Many fans are also moved by the innocent expressions and gestures that Nezuko shows in between the serious developments of the story.
The animation is produced by ufotable, and the quality is outstanding. The realistic animation carefully depicts the world of the work, with scenes of heated battles and Japanese-style emotions.
In addition to the bond between brothers and friendship between friends, the drama of the demons that are the enemies is also well depicted. Oni were originally human beings. Many of them had unhappy lives when they were human, and Tanjirou confronts them while accepting their sorrows, allowing viewers to understand their pasts and feelings and to be close to them.
The story has a gentle perspective on the enemy, and the drama has a depth that teaches the viewer the harshness of battle and the tenderness of caring for one’s enemies.
The animation, story, and characters are combined and composed at a high level, which is probably why “DEMON SLAYER” has captivated both children and adults in Japan.
