“Violet Evergarden” is a light novel by Kana Akatsuki. It was the first work to win the Grand Prize at the Kyoto Animation Awards. In 2018, a TV animation produced by Kyoto Animation was broadcast and simultaneously distributed simultaneously from Japan to the world; a film was released in 2019 and a completely new film was released in 2020.
Synopsis
Violet Evergarden is an inspiring story about a lonely girl, Violet, who struggles to understand her emotions. The story unfolds as the war comes to an end and people with its scars try to build new lives.
The main character, Violet, is a former soldier who lost both her arms in an incident on the battlefield. She subsequently works as a letter-writing ‘automatic hand puppet’ as a substitute, seeking to understand her own destiny and emotions.
The story follows Violet as she writes letters on behalf of various people, learning the meaning of emotions through their feelings and thoughts. She grows through various encounters and experiences, and as she confronts herself, she understands the importance of connection and love for others.
Along with beautiful artwork, the animation is characterised by a touching story that reaches deep into the human psyche and has made a lasting impression on many viewers.
