“Neon Genesis EVANGELION” is a Japanese animated television series. Directed by Hideaki Anno, the 26 episodes were broadcast on television between 1995 and 1996.The success of “Neon Genesis EVANGELION” led to an anime boom, and from around 1997, after the broadcast, there was an unprecedented boom of about 50 TV anime episodes a week in the Tokyo metropolitan area.Around this time, the soundtrack “NEON GENESIS EVANGELION III” reached No. 1 on the Oricon Weekly Album Chart dated 3 June 1996, the first time in 17 years since Galaxy Express 999 that an anime work had reached No. 1, and was widely reported in the sports press and on TV the following day.The work has become a huge global content through all kinds of media mixes and is loved by people all over the world.

Synopsis

What happened in the world before the story of Neon Genesis EVANGELION began?
A long time ago, a meteorite collision called Giant Impact (First Impact) occurred. This meteorite seems to have created the mysterious giant enemy “Apostles”, but the details are unknown.
Then, in 2000, the Second Impact occurred, causing a catastrophe and halving the world’s population.
Around this time, the secret society SEELE established the Commission for the Complementation of Humanity and set up an organisation called GEHIRN, which was reorganised into the special agency NERV in 2010. During this period, it built three Evangelion (EVA) giant humanoid weapons to counter the Apostles.

In 2015, this is where the story of Neon Genesis EVANGELION begins.
The protagonist Shinji Ikari is invited by his father (Gendo) to visit the Third New Tokyo City. The Third New Tokyo City is a fortress city prepared for an attack by the Apostles, and is managed by the special agency NERV. Gendo is the commander-in-chief of the special agency NERV, and he summons Shinji to fight the apostles in an EVA; it is Shinji who fits into the first EVA machine. Shinji is bewildered by the sudden turn of events, but when he sees a girl (Rei Ayanami) about to be forced to fight with serious injuries, he decides to fight himself. Thus begins the battle against the Apostles for the survival of humanity.
