“Black Clover” is a Japanese manga by Yuki Tajima. It was first published as a read-only series in 2014, then serialized in 2015.A TV anime adaptation was announced in 2016 and aired from 2017 to 2021. A total of 170 episodes. Production was handled by studio Piero. The story is basically based on the original work, but the anime contains original elements in places, and sometimes an anime original story that is not in the original work is broadcast.

Synopsis

Once upon a time, when the world was about to be destroyed by an entity called the “Demon God,” a mage appeared, defeated the Demon God, and saved the world. Later, that mage became a legend and was called the “Magic Emperor.

Time has passed since then, and the Kingdom of Clover is enjoying peace with the “Magic Emperor” and the nine mage groups under him, the “Magic Knights”.
Asuta, a lowly orphan boy living there, and Yuno, another orphan boy, were training day and night to become the Magic Emperor, but Asuta, on the contrary to Yuno, who had a great talent for magic, could not use magic at all.

When he turned 15, he was given a grimoire, but Asuta was not. Later, when a bandit comes after Yuno’s grimoire, Asuta discovers that he was born without any magical powers. Asuta despairs and almost gives up on his dream, but Yuno’s words reignite his fighting spirit, and he obtains the “Five-Leaf Grimoire,” which contains the power to nullify magic, and fights off the bandits.

Asuta decides to become a magic emperor, and six months later, he joins the “Black Bull,” said to be the worst magic knight order, and Yuno joins the “Golden Dawn,” the most powerful magic knight order.

The highlight of “Black Clover” is the main character, Asuta, who gives courage to those around him by never giving up on his dream of becoming a “magic emperor”. The development of the noisy and energetic Asuta’s growth and the deepening of his bond with his friends through battles is a royal roadmap, but the many powerful battle scenes and passionate developments make it well worth watching.
The opening and closing scenes throughout the series are also excellent.
