The Promised Neverland|Anime
“The Promised Neverland” is a Japanese manga series written by Kaiu Shirai and drawn by Posuka Demizu, serialized in a shonen magazine from 2016 to 2019. An anime was televised from 2020.
It is a story about children raised in an orphanage who must fight against their harsh destiny, and is a dark fantasy/suspense work with a young girl as the main character, which is rare for a work serialized in a shōnen magazine.
Synopsis
The story begins at an “orphanage” where orphans gather and live happily with their brothers and sisters who are not related to them by blood. This orphanage was an irreplaceable place where 38 orphans spend their days happily with a kind sister who runs the orphanage, even though they are not related by blood.
However, the orphans’ peaceful and happy life comes to an abrupt end.
The orphanage is a farm, and the children living in the orphanage are “edible humans” who are shipped to ogres for food.
The main character “Emma” and the other sisters whom the orphans adored were actually in charge of monitoring the children and raising them properly for “shipment.
Emma and her friends at the orphanage, who strongly felt “I don’t want any more of my family to die,” unraveled the various threads that lurked in their daily lives. This is the beginning of an escape plan that puts the lives of ogres vs. children on the line.
The Promised Neverland | Recommendations
The highlight of “The Promised Neverland” is the survival that begins with the “escape from the orphanage” and the psychological battle between the children and the ogres and the adults who have passed to the ogres’ side, which is different and more interesting than the usual battle-based animation.
The game that unfolds in the orphanage that has been believed to be a family is full of thrills. The main characters are busy gathering information to escape. Will the escape be successful? The protagonists’ actions are one of the highlights of the early part of the story.
In addition to the mysterious developments, the many foreshadowing lines that are stretched out are truly brilliant, and the storyline is worth watching even for adults.
