Rurouni Kenshin was originally created by Japanese manga artist Nobuhiro Watsuki. The anime adaptation was directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi, a well-known director in the anime world, bringing the manga to life with dynamic animation and emotional depth.

The manga series Rurouni Kenshin was serialized in the popular Japanese magazine “Weekly Shonen Jump” from 1994 to 1999, spanning 28 volumes. Due to its immense popularity in Japan, the anime adaptation aired from 1996 to 1998, consisting of 95 episodes.

The anime was not limited to TV; multiple OVAs (original video animations) were produced, including Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal, which explored the darker backstory of Kenshin Himura. Additionally, Rurouni Kenshin has been adapted into live-action films, which have garnered international acclaim for their choreography and action sequences.

Set in Japan during the early Meiji Era (late 19th century), Rurouni Kenshin follows the journey of a wandering swordsman, Kenshin Himura, known in the past as the infamous assassin Battosai the Manslayer. After years of bloodshed, Kenshin vows never to kill again and takes on a pacifist lifestyle, wielding a reverse-blade sword to protect the innocent.
